About the Role

Polishing and smoothing out metals before welding
Combining metal parts in overhead, vertical, or flat positions
Laying out, aligning, positioning, and securing metal components
Fixing seams or filling holes in metals
Studying blueprints, sketches, material safety information, and engineering drawings to determine proportions for designs
Maintaining welding machinery and equipment
Inspecting structures or materials before welding
Inspecting metalwork for defects and non-compliance with specifications
Monitoring metals to avoid overheating of such metals
Controlling and monitoring the materials and flame
Conjoining pieces of infrastructure to create new items
Removing excess weld, spatter, or slag from welded metal
Applying protective coatings to metals

Requirements

  • Journeyman welder preferred, Apprentices, and those with equivalent to journeyman welder experience will be considered

  • 3+ years maintenance experience is preferred

  • Equipment Operator’s Certification to operate the forklift and pallet jack, Scissor lift, Zoom boom, JLG or the ability to obtain certifications

  • Experience following preventative maintenance programs and documenting work as it is completed. Experience using computer based preventative maintenance systems an asset

  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) and excellent mathematical skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and skilled at troubleshooting machinery is a must

  • Able to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness

  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision

  • Must be able to follow set procedures, efficiently, effectively and prioritize work

  • Excellent problem-solving skills (observing the problem, deciding the cause, and then working out the most effective way to resolve it)

  • Able to react quickly to problems as they arise to minimize production down time

  • Able to independently bring forth innovative ideas and suggestions to improve production and/or the work environment

  • Possesses good hand-eye coordination and dexterity needed when using tools to make adjustments to the machine and when handling product and equipment

  • Able to get into different physical positions as required to perform equipment maintenance

  • Able to lift 50 lbs
